The Middleman

Poetry for now. Production soon.

verse

I’ve been going to bed with a bottle by my bedside

Just in case if you come back you’ll wanna raise your glass

Just like we used to do way back in Nashville

Way back before the daybreak, in the past

I’ve been going to bed daydreaming about the city

Even though I cursed it’s the last place you would find me

Now these mountains - they all suffocate my body

Maybe the altitude or just the lack of light

chorus

And you say just walk forward honey

But I don’t wanna walk if you can’t come along

Must be the middleman I’m hanging on to everything I’ve got and gone

It’s heavy here

verse

I’ve been going to bed reenacting what would happen

If I hadn’t made the jump no one would blame me

But I took a chance, I took a shot, got on the plane and I gave it up

It’s heavy here

And I’ve been going to bed hoping that when I wake up

The smoky range is right outside my doorstep

Didn’t know just what to do, what I did can’t see it through

It’s not heavy

chorus

And you say just walk forward honey

But I don’t wanna walk if I leave you on the way

Must be the middleman I’m hanging on to everything I’ve got and gone

It’s heavy here
